Pat Sarell grew up in the outer suburbs in Melbourne’s east and began working life as a musician. He received a BA in Jazz, majoring in saxophone, from the Victorian College of the Arts, but an injury ultimately forced him to walk away from a career in music.

Searching for a fresh start in creative field, Pat began working at his uncle’s animation studio in Prahan in 2000 as a junior producer. After three years of advertising and management, Pat took a year off in London and began to teach himself animation.

In 2009 he created, wrote and directed the AACTA award winning animated short film Nullarbor which went on to win over 60 awards world wide, screen at over 200 festivals, and was short listed for an Oscar nomination.

Nullarbor’s success lead to a global career in visual effects for film at TV. Pat and his family travelled to Canada and New Zealand where he worked on everything from Game of Thrones to Harry PotterFantastic Beasts, Gravity, Ghost in the Shell, Crazy Rich Asians, Thor: Ragnarok, Rampage and Mortal Engines among others.

All this time he was writing, creating and designing stories and characters. In fact, he can’t seem to stop. He’s probably doing it right now...
